    About me

What if learning a language could change your life?

For me, it already has — many times over.

I'm Elka, a language teacher with over 20 years of experience and a life shaped by curiosity, adventure, and deep human connection. I have lived in 10 countries and taught in places most people only dream of visiting — tiny communities at 4,000 meters in the Ecuadorian Andes, fishing villages deep in the Peruvian jungle, and on the Caribbean coast, where I worked alongside women rebuilding their lives. In every place, language was the key that opened doors.

For the past 10 years, I have brought that same energy and depth into online teaching, using interactive tools to create lessons that are alive, personalized, and truly effective.

Here's something not many people know about me: I used to perform with fire.

And the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Fire demands your full attention. It transforms everything it touches. It warms, it illuminates, it connects.

That is exactly what language does.

I don't just teach vocabulary and grammar. I help you find your voice in a new language — with patience, creativity, and genuine joy.

When I'm not teaching, you'll find me hiking to a new summit, lost in a book, learning yet another language myself, or planning my next adventure somewhere unexpected.

Ready to light that flame? Let's walk this journey together — side by side, word by word.

Languages have always been more than words to me. They are systems of thought, windows into culture, and tools for transformation. My academic journey reflects that belief.

I hold degrees in languages, social sciences, and international studies, and I am certified to teach Dutch as a foreign language and English as a second language. But what truly shaped my teaching is not what I studied — it is where and how I have lived, worked, and connected with people across 10 countries and countless communities.

That combination of academic depth and real-world experience is what makes my approach different.

I do not follow a fixed script. Every student who walks into my virtual classroom is a unique learner with their own rhythm, goals, and story. My methodology is built around that reality. I design each lesson from the ground up — based on your level, your objectives, and the way your mind naturally absorbs information.

Structure matters. But so does spontaneity.

My lessons combine solid grammar foundations with real-life communication from day one. I place particular emphasis on speaking and pronunciation, because confidence in conversation is often what students struggle with most — and what changes everything when it finally clicks.

To bring language to life, I use interactive digital tools, authentic materials, and scenario-based exercises that mirror real situations you will actually face — at work, while traveling, in social settings, or in daily life. Role-play, guided conversation, and practical tasks are not extras in my classroom. They are the core.

I have taught complete beginners who were afraid to say a single word, and advanced learners fine-tuning their professional communication. I have prepared students for international exams, career transitions, and life in a new country. Each journey looked different. Each one moved forward.

My goal is simple but profound: I do not just want you to learn a language. I want you to own it — to speak it with ease, think in it naturally, and use it with real confidence in the world beyond our lessons.

Learning a language doesn’t have to be difficult or boring—it can be a transformative experience.

In my class, you won’t just study a language, you will start living it from the very first minute. I will help you speak with confidence, overcome the fear of making mistakes, and express yourself naturally in real-life situations.

Each lesson is a safe space where you can be yourself, progress at your own pace, and discover how far you can go. My goal is that after every class you feel real progress, motivation, and the desire to keep learning.

If you are looking for more than just a teacher—if you want a guide, someone who supports you in this journey and believes in your potential—then you are in the right place.

Book your first lesson and let’s take the first step together. Your future in this language starts now.

Elka is a fantastic experience teacher and she is my best Dutch teacher I have ever met. I studied Dutch for a year while I was studying abroad in the Netherlands, but since I was studying with people who had different language backgrounds than mine, and my native language is quite different from Dutch, I felt like I was falling behind and developed a sense of insecurity about it. In Elka’s lessons, she addressed my weaknesses and needs with a professional attitude. I didn’t feel shy during the lessons and was able to speak Dutch with confidence. I feel like I was able to master something in a single lesson that I’d been struggling with for months. It’s all thanks to her. I really want to keep taking her lessons so I can achieve my goal.
