Hey everyone! My name is Jimi, and I was born and raised in the Netherlands, but I also grew up speaking English since my dad is from England and doesn’t speak Dutch. Because of that, I speak both English and Dutch as my native languages. Plus, I currently live in Colombia, where I’ve learned to speak Spanish.
I’ve always loved teaching and have given Dutch lessons to international students at my university. Now, I’d like to continue this passion for teaching and help people interested in learning Dutch, both the language and the culture.
I have experience providing "social Dutch lessons" to international students studying in the Netherlands. My teaching style is more conversation-focused, where I try to combine language learning with your own interests (which I’ve always found to be the most effective way to learn languages). My classes have a somewhat informal vibe because I want to make learning fun! But if you prefer a different approach, we can definitely adjust the lessons to fit your personal preferences.

Jimi has been an amazing tutor! Dutch is a relatively difficult language to learn, but he’s adapted everything to fit my needs and what I actually want to get out of it. He’s super flexible and makes learning way more engaging than just following a textbook or an app. He keeps things personable, efficient, and real; not only teaching the basics, but also sharing phrases people actually use. It makes a huge difference. He’s also incredibly friendly and creates such a comfortable environment. Jimmy is a great tutor. Even after just two lessons, I can already see how well he adapts to my needs. He took the time to assess my current Dutch level and built on what I already knew, which made the lessons feel very personalized and efficient. I also really appreciate how flexible he is. When he learned that I work in hospitality, he brought relevant hotel-related examples into the lesson, which made the learning much more practical and engaging for me. Most of the class is in English, but he also makes helpful comparisons with Spanish, which adds another layer of understanding. On top of that, he is very friendly and easy to talk to, which creates a comfortable learning environment. I definitely recommend him.Rina
