About me
Hello! I’m Pedro, your guide to learning mathematics with confidence and in a fun way.
I have many years of experience teaching mathematics in different countries and cultures, specializing in international programs such as IB MYP and DP Mathematics and IGCSE Mathematics. I love helping students realize that mathematics is not just about formulas or procedures, but about thinking clearly, solving problems, and building confidence step by step.
In my classes, you can expect clear, organized, and engaging explanations, plenty of time to practice, and support whenever you need it. I encourage questions, teamwork, and perseverance, because mistakes are simply steps toward learning. My goal is for you to feel confident, motivated, and proud of your progress.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, swimming, exercising, and continuing to learn new things. I’m passionate about personal growth and helping others reach their full potential. I’m excited to help you discover your strengths and enjoy your journey in mathematics!
I am a Mathematics educator with more than 17 years of teaching experience, primarily at the middle and high school levels (Grades 6–11), in both national and international contexts. I currently teach at the International Community School (ICS) in Addis Ababa, where I have been teaching IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Mathematics for the past four years in a diverse, multicultural environment. Throughout my career, I have taught arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and foundations of calculus, always emphasizing conceptual understanding and real-world application.
I hold a professional teaching certification and have completed the Cambridge ICELT (In-Service Certificate in English Language Teaching), which strengthened my instructional planning, assessment strategies, and classroom practice in international settings. I am also trained and experienced in the IB MYP framework, including concept-based learning, criteria-based assessment, development of ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills, and interdisciplinary connections. My academic background as an Environmental and Sanitation Engineer provides me with strong analytical skills and the ability to connect mathematics to authentic, real-life contexts.
My teaching methodology is clear, structured, and student-centered. I focus on inquiry, problem-solving, collaboration, and mathematical communication. I differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and use formative and summative assessments strategically to guide instruction and promote growth. I aim to create a disciplined yet supportive classroom environment where students feel challenged, confident, and motivated to improve. In addition to classroom teaching, I have taken on leadership responsibilities such as coordinating the MYP Community Project, supporting curriculum development, and mentoring students in both academic and personal growth.
Together, we’ll unlock your potential in mathematics. I’m here to inspire confidence, foster inquiry, and make learning engaging. Embrace challenges and celebrate your progress—let’s embark on this transformative journey to success in math!

My specialties
Linear algebra
I have substantial experience teaching linear algebra to high school and early university-level students, helping them develop a deep understanding of fundamental concepts such as vectors, matrices, systems of linear equations, determinants, and linear transformations. My approach focuses on building both conceptual understanding and practical problem-solving skills, ensuring that students see the relevance of linear algebra in real-world applications, from physics and engineering to computer science and data analysis. I prioritize creating a clear, structured, and engaging learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, explore multiple solution strategies, and learn from mistakes. By using visual representations, interactive examples, and applied exercises, I make abstract concepts tangible and easier to grasp. I also employ formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adapt my teaching to the individual learning styles and needs of each student, providing targeted guidance and differentiated support. Beyond technical mastery, I emphasize logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and perseverance, helping students build confidence and independence in their mathematical abilities. Witnessing students successfully navigate linear algebra, connect its concepts to other areas of mathematics, and apply their knowledge to complex problems has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching career.
Elementary Algebra
I have extensive experience teaching elementary algebra to students across a variety of educational contexts, ranging from middle school to early high school levels. Over the years, I have guided learners through the foundational concepts of algebra, including operations with variables, solving linear equations and inequalities, understanding functions, and exploring patterns and relationships. My approach emphasizes conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization, helping students see how algebra connects to real-world problems and other areas of mathematics. I prioritize creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes, and explore different problem-solving strategies. By using a combination of visual aids, interactive exercises, and real-life examples, I ensure that abstract concepts become tangible and meaningful. I also incorporate formative assessments to track progress and tailor my instruction to each student’s needs, allowing for differentiated learning that addresses varying skill levels and learning styles. Beyond the mechanics of algebra, I focus on developing critical thinking, logical reasoning, and perseverance, so students not only solve problems correctly but also understand the process behind them. Witnessing students gain confidence and achieve mastery in elementary algebra has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching career.
Pre algebra
I have extensive experience teaching introductory algebra to students at the middle school level and early high school, helping them build a solid foundation in mathematical thinking. In my lessons, I guide students through fundamental concepts such as understanding variables, writing and interpreting expressions, solving simple equations, and recognizing patterns and relationships. My teaching approach emphasizes clarity, conceptual understanding, and real-world application, ensuring that students see algebra as more than abstract symbols but as a practical tool for problem-solving. I create a supportive and interactive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring different strategies, and learning from mistakes. By using visual aids, manipulatives, and relatable examples, I make abstract ideas concrete and accessible. I also employ formative assessments to monitor progress and adapt lessons to each student’s learning style and pace, providing differentiated support where needed. Beyond technical skills, I focus on fostering critical thinking, logical reasoning, and persistence, helping students develop confidence and independence in mathematics. Watching students gain mastery of introductory algebra and see how it connects to higher-level concepts has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching journey.
