She is so compassionate and adaptable. I had a last minute issue at home and had to reschedule our lesson. She understood and we picked up where we left off easily. It was great because she was able to use what the issue was in our lesson to learn some new words and verbs. I'm honestly really happy with Patricia. I'm learning proper spanish but also how things are spoken daily. Update: Its been about about 8 lessons now (2x a week) and I have been counting new words that I have been learning. It is now up to 160 words! The great thing is that they are words that I am and can actually use in conversations. And I have been actually reading. Like really reading! I have upgraded to 3 times a week to keep more consistent and have spanish constantly fresh in my mind. Another update: My very first lesson with Patricia was April 20th. This far I have had 20 lessons(hours) with her. It's now June 17th. I started at twice a week and moved to three times a week. I'm actually fluent enough to ask for directions, order food, have a normal conversation beyond "Hi how are you". For me the best part is being able to read around a second grade level. I've been able to go to the bookstore and buy spanish books. Her and I can go over some of the words and help to understand what is going on through the context and not just literally. I've learned that translating from Spanish to English isnt always word-to-word a lot of times. I can also write short paragraphs. I knew some spanish to start but not enough that would allow me to be able to speak beyond a toddler level. From where I started to now I'd say I am in the second grade. I really like Patricia because she easily met me where I was and was able to reinforce and correct what I thought I knew. My reading is getting better. I'm more confident in my comprehension. I'm able to understand A LOT more at regular talking speed. Right now we are working on my pronunciation and the tricky rolling "rr". She's recommended a great spanish song that has helped my ears pick up hearing spanish spoken at a more normal speed. For example. Instead of having to have people say to me; "The. Cat. Is. Eating." Someone can say; "The cat is eating." I look forward to the lessons. It's like working with a regular relatable person. But if and when I needed more structure she is able to do that as well.
