I have had about 13 lessons and have grown so much! I feel comfortable enough to try new things to increase my range and stamina. Most recently I have been able to bring in my guitar and despite Christien not playing herself she has helped me improve my pitching and playing at the same time. Working with Christien has deepened my love of music. She is absolutely amazing!

    My specialties

    Piano

Since 2006, I’ve been teaching piano with a passion for helping students of all ages discover the joy and freedom of making music. My approach is rooted in nurturing each individual’s creativity, curiosity, and confidence at the piano. While I love guiding students through a wide variety of musical styles—especially contemporary and jazz—I also place strong emphasis on building solid foundations. From beginner to more advanced levels, I focus on developing essential skills and technical proficiency that empower students to unlock their full creative potential.I encourage students to explore improvisation, songwriting, and chord-based playing, giving them the tools to express themselves musically in fresh and personal ways. Whether they’re learning to play solo, jamming with friends, or preparing to join a band or worship team, I aim to equip them with the confidence and musical understanding needed to thrive in any setting.I believe every person has a unique musical voice, and I tailor my teaching to support that discovery. Whether it’s learning a favourite song, experimenting with new sounds, or composing original pieces, my goal is always to create a space where students feel inspired, capable, and excited to grow as musicians—together and on their own.

    Voice (music)

As a vocal teacher, I specialise in helping beginner students discover and develop their own unique, authentic voice. My teaching focuses on building a strong foundation through essential vocal techniques used by established professionals. This includes warm-ups, breath control, vowel placement, improving timbre and tone quality, belting, articulation, vibrato, agility, intonation, and vocal resistance training. Students are guided in applying these techniques to songs at various levels, helping them grow both technically and expressively. With a Grade 8 qualification in the RSL (Rockschool ) syllabus, I also support students preparing for graded vocal exams from Grade 1 to Grade 8, helping them build confidence, skill, and musicality along the way.
