About me

Hi! My name is Duvan, and I’m a Spanish tutor with around 7 years of teaching experience. I’m truly passionate about education and enjoy helping others discover their own way of learning. I’d be glad to support you throughout your journey with Spanish. Outside of teaching, I love working out, playing video games, and trying new food.

I have seven years of teaching experience, working with both children and adults. My classes focus on developing the four main language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Modern Languages Teaching and a TESOL certification. I adapt my teaching methods based on each student's goals, performance, and learning style, ensuring that the approach fits their individual needs.

Duvan takes every class very seriously. I really like the fact that he has some background in teaching and clearly knows what he's doing. He comes prepared for every single class, takes the time to explain every detail and checks in on you after each section to make sure you don't have any questions. He's very attentive and patient and actually uses the entire class time focusing on you and your needs. He sends homework and vocabulary that we used during the class afterwards, in addition to grading homework. I can't help but highly recommend Duvan to everyone embarking on their journey into the world of Colombian Spanish. 10/10.

I can’t say enough good things about Duvan as a Spanish tutor. He is kind, patient, and incredibly thoughtful in how he teaches. Every week, he gives clear, practical feedback on what I should focus on next, which has made my progress feel steady and intentional rather than random. After just a few months working with him, I am much more conversational than I’ve ever been. My vocabulary has expanded dramatically, and he has really pushed me to connect ideas and thoughts into more complex sentences, things I could not do before. I’ve studied Spanish in different ways for a few years, so I had the basics, but Duvan helped me turn that foundation into real, usable conversation. I genuinely feel myself improving week after week. What stands out most to me (and this may be different for everyone) is how much time he gives during each session to have general conversations. We have real conversations, and then he builds lessons on top of what comes up naturally. That approach has been a game-changer for my confidence and fluency. He is also always on time and very professional. After each lesson, he follows up with a clear review, a vocabulary list with new words, and any additional material that supports what we worked on or what’s coming next. He’s also very responsive to messages and always open to requests or adjustments to focus areas. If you’re looking for a tutor who is supportive, structured, and genuinely invested in helping you speak Spanish, not just study it, then Duvan is your guy!!

I know very little Spanish so far, and Duvan is very patient with me as I practice with him. On top of being kind and easy to talk with, he is amazing at making materials to study for the next class. He always sends me summaries of our lessons including vocab lists of the new words that we talked about, I'm really impressed with how thorough he is. I feel like I'm not only practicing what I know and learning some new things through talking together, but he's also pushing me to learn more grammar which I really appreciate. He explains grammar in a way that's really easy to understand. Our classes feel super productive while being in a completely welcoming space where we can enjoy chatting. He's a great teacher, I definitely recommend taking his classes!
