About me
Hi,
my name is Nadin. I'm a private tutor and writer with roots in Germany. Since 2007, I've been living abroad - first in Scotland (United Kingdom) for eight years, then briefly in Belgium, and now I'm living with my cat and my husband in the West of France.
My original background is Film Studies and I've been writing about Slow Cinema for over ten years now. From 2018 to 2022, I worked as a festival programmer for the Slow Film Festival (UK) and I published my first monograph, Human Condition(s) - An aesthetic of cinematic slowness in April 2021. In 2022, three more publications (in English, Portuguese and Arabic) followed.
Seventeen years abroad have put me in touch with a multitude of people from other cultures, other social backgrounds, people speaking other languages. It truly is a fascinating world and I use this knowledge and the passion, which I have gathered, in my classes.
Why teaching? I started teaching during my PhD in 2012, when I became a teaching assistant at the University of Stirling in Scotland. I quickly realised that teaching wasn't so much about helping others to learn, but also about learning a lot yourself. Teaching is a two-way process, especially when it is done across geographical frontiers, languages and cultures.
I have learned a lot thanks to those people I met along the way. I met people who are passionate about the same subjects I am passionate about: languages, culture, art, society, and much more.
So, I'm sure you ask what I can help you with. The best way forward is to tell you what I have already done in the past:
- simple daily conversations for those who seek to practice their everyday German
- theme-focused conversations based on a subject of the student's choice
- job interview preparations / CV check
- pronounciation exercises
- help with translations
- language test preparation (telc, Goethe)
In February 2025 I completed a vocational training to become education coach (Klett Fernakademie). I believe that the process of learning is not only about learning vocabulary or grammar. It is just as much about psychology, about motivation, attention, and confidence.
All my classes are easy-going and flexible. If you need a lot of help, I'm there to help with adequate corrections and encouragement. If you're already fluent in German, then I'm there to listen to you and give you small hints here and there.
I'm looking forward to meeting you!
P.S.: All my classes are safe space for LGBTQIA+.
I have three semesters of general teaching experience at university level (2012-2014). I started private tutoring in early 2017 and have worked with a multitude of students from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India and migrants of different backgrounds living in Europe.

Nadin is a great teacher, she is very patient and I can feel that I am making real progress with her in my preparation for the B1 exam. She structures the lessons well, and this is increasing my confidence with understanding, speaking, reading and writing in German. Thank you Nadin!

Nadin is a brilliant teacher that instantly makes you feel at ease. Speaking has always been the weakest skill in my learning journey as my confidence has been lacking but Nadin is so patient and encouraging that I feel myself improving with every time we chat. I look forward to many more lessons together!

Super teacher. Nadin knows how to create a relaxed and motivating atmosphere that gives confidence to express oneself, even when making mistakes. The exchanges during lessons are very rich and the homework is varied and tailored to my level. Thanks to her, I feel much more comfortable speaking and I feel I have made real progress in conversation in a short time.

Nadin is an excellent, patient, professional and thorough teacher. But above all, she’s a smart and fascinating person, and I genuinely enjoy talking with her about anything that pops into my mind while improving my German along the way. Before we started, I couldn’t put together a full sentence and actually say it out loud, and thanks to our conversations I now speak much more freely—even if it’s not always perfect. I feel confident speaking and making mistakes, because that’s the best way to learn. Nadine is always available for any question and is always happy to give generously of herself. And she’s just super cool.

My specialties
Conversational German
Speaking a foreign language is always daunting. In the past, I've accompanied professionals, such as translators, philosophy teachers, sociologist professors and linguistic students in their practice of speaking about their respective subjects in German. I've also helped people to feel more comfortable and confident in their day-to-day conversations.
German for beginners
You just start out learning German without the pressure of needing to pass a test? Then this is for you. We take it slow and easy, and adjust the pace as we go. I use a variety of material: Grammatik aktiv (Cornelsen), Deutsch als Fremdsprache (Duden) and more.
International certificates A1-B2
In the past, I have prepared students for telc certificates (A1-B2) as well as for the Goethe certificate (A2-B2). My standard material for the grammar part is Grammatik aktiv (Cornelsen), but I also work with other books.
General German
For those people who learn German for fun or because of an interest in Germany and its culture, I've offered both conversation and grammar classes in the past. Used material depends on the student's level, and on their learning strategies/methods.
