I have now spent 23 years immersed in English and have even been able to set up my own small business where I spend all day long talking to my tattoo clients! We can get into general slang or street talk, common idioms and expressions, and how to sound natural as you interact in different settings.

With setting up my business, I had to have many back-and-forth exchanges between the city's business and planning departments, had to sign property leases and learned how to switch up my language to sound more professional and trustworthy in front of clients. Everyone has to start somewhere! I grew up speaking Tagalog at home and English is very different, especially in how the sentences are formed and how the words cough and dough are not pronounced in the same way at all. I completely understand the confusion as I have been there myself, and hope that I can help make learning easy and fun!

As someone that deeply enjoys travelling, I can help you with practical, useful and valuable phrases and vocabulary to know if you would like to be able to get around with ease! We could get into topics such as asking for directions, asking for food recommendations or needing to discuss allergies, how to get around using public transportation... the list is endless! What kind of language would YOU need to know to get around? (:

English is MY second language as well! My first is Tagalog, so I completely understand the challenges of having to wrap your mind around making different sounds, speaking in a different rhythm, and needing to find the right words to communicate what you really mean to say.During our trial lesson, I can gently guide the experience with supplementary Tagalog/Japanese to aid in bridging confusion, but I would like to make sure we spend our time conversing in English as much as possible so you get as much practice as you need to start feeling comfortable and confident speaking out loud!

I am a big fan of prose, poetry and theatrical scripts! My passion in school was dissecting literature and writing essays - if you have a body of text that you would like to understand more and explore, I would love to help you learn creative and expressive English!

As an immigrant that has lived in Canada for over 2 decades, I have a fluent understanding of the region's particular ways of speaking. I can help with pronunciation, getting the accent and inflections right, and adding in conversational flourishes that will help you sound more natural when speaking.

I am currently enrolled in the Level 5 250-hour TEFL course so that I can keep my knowledge sharp and earn my certification! We're learning English together!
