My name is John. I am a retired Los Angeles Times newspaper editor and the author of 24 nonfiction books, mostly on world travel. I have also taught journalism classes at the University of Oregon, my alma mater, and at Western Washington University. I have a real passion for the English language and for using it correctly, both in speech and in writing at an advanced level. When I'm not writing and traveling, I love outdoor recreation and jazz music.

I have three years of university teaching experience in the United States; four years of experience in international language schools in Vietnam; and two years of experience as a private, one-on-one tutor. My focus is advanced spoken and written English.
