    About me

I work with students at B1 (intermediate), B2 (upper-intermediate), and C1 (advanced) levels—both teenagers (17–18) and adults (19+). My focus areas are exam prep (CAEL, CELPIP, IELTS, TOEFL), business English (advertising, marketing, printing, and publishing professionals), and conversational English to keep your speaking skills sharp.

To pass the CAEL, CELPIP, IELTS, and TOEFL exams with the highest possible score, students do not just need test strategies; you can best learn those specifics through the companies who create and administer these exams. What ESL students really need are high-level critical thinking and advanced information processing skills, and this is where I can help you.

Bottom line: if you can summarize a real news report, write a formal email to a boss, effectively describe a visual, and concisely argue a point in 60 seconds, you will achieve the results you want in all of these exams. You'll also be able to succeed in your college/university studies and job search/career.

I began my teaching career in 2016 after earning my TESOL certification, when I was hired as an English teacher at a private school in Bangkok, Thailand. After completing that contract, I transitioned to online teaching, where I have continued helping teenagers and adults improve their English skills. While I have experience teaching children, I prefer working with secondary and post-secondary students (aged 17–22) as well as adults (23+) at the intermediate, upper-intermediate, and advanced levels.

As a Canadian, I naturally specialize in Canadian English. However, through my work as an international book publisher, I am also very familiar with the differences in spelling, pronunciation, and word usage between Canadian, British, and American English. All are correct, and exploring these differences can be both fun and educational.

My teaching methodology is flexible and tailored to each student’s needs. Depending on the situation, I may use:

    - Teacher-centered instruction

    - Student-centered instruction (constructivist approach)

    - Inquiry-based learning

If you’re preparing for an upcoming English proficiency exam or simply want to strengthen and sharpen your English skills, I’d love to help you succeed. Think of it as training your language muscles to stay strong and confident. Send me a message and tell me a bit about yourself—together, we’ll find out how we can make your goals a reality.

I had a great experience learning with Kim. I started preparing for the CELPIP exam with her, and she helped me go through all the sections of the test step by step. She explained clearly how to approach each task and shared many helpful tips. All the lessons were very well organized, and Kim was always prepared. I highly recommend her to anyone preparing for the CELPIP exam.

If you want to improve your CELPIP score, I highly recommend Kim. Her approach is excellent; she first takes the time to understand your needs and then tailors each class accordingly. She helped me so much, and I will miss our classes. Kim is not only an outstanding tutor, but also kind-hearted, understanding, and patient. Thank you for everything, Kim!

    My specialties

    Conversational English

There are no quizzes in these conversational English classes. You can talk about your life, dreams, and goals—or your choice of topic from the many subjects listed here on the LearnZone site—with someone who can help you to correct your word usage and pronunciation without any judgement. This will help you speak more confidently in social settings while helping you to become a more fluent English speaker over time. (My expertise is working with B1, B2, and C1 English proficiency level students.)

    Business English

Certified to tutor Business English (ESP) to professionals worldwide with a focus on sales and new business development in the advertising, marketing, publishing, and printing industries.

    IELTS

Certified to tutor ESL students in preparation for both the general and academic IELTS exams, equipping them with the skills needed to study or work in English-speaking countries like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and Canada.

    American English

As a Canadian, I obviously specialize in Canadian English. That said, through my experience as a worldwide book publisher, I am very familiar with how our spellings, pronunciation, and word usage differ from British English and American English. All are correct. We can have fun learning the differences together (e.g., Canadians tend to spell like the British but punctuate like the Americans).

    TOEFL

Certified to tutor ESL students in preparation for the TOEFL Junior, Primary, ITP, iBT, and Essentials exams, equipping them with the skills needed to study in English-speaking countries like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and Canada.

    English job interview prep

Whether it's reviewing (and fully understanding) the English job description, updating your resume and cover letter to match it, preparing for interview questions, or practicing mock interview scenarios together, I can help you to prepare for your upcoming job interview during our class. Through my experienced contacts within Canada's recruitment industry, I can recommend valuable resources (e.g., books, checklists, job boards) that will help you in your search for employment. (My expertise is working with B1, B2, and C1 English proficiency level students.)

    ESL

When you study English as a Second Language (ESL) from a native English speaker and certified TESOL tutor, you improve more than your English grammar, speaking, reading, and listening skills. You learn the common vernacular that we use in our everyday lives. The funny sayings and idioms you've heard that don't make sense suddenly become clearer, and you come to understand how and when they're most often used. This requires consistent practice over a period of weeks or months, depending on how often you work with your tutor. If you're committed to you, then I am committed to you. (My expertise is working with B1, B2, and C1 English proficiency level students.)

    Writing

My writing classes are effective because I don't just show you how to write an email or essay for an English proficiency exam. By taking you back to the basics of sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar, I'll help you build a strong foundation that can also be used in your career. (My expertise is working with B1, B2, and C1 English proficiency level students.)

    Canadian English

As a Canadian, I obviously specialize in Canadian English. That said, through my experience as a worldwide book publisher and author, I am very familiar with how our spellings, pronunciation, and word usage differ from British English and American English. All are correct. We can have fun learning the differences together (e.g., Canadians tend to spell like the British but punctuate like the Americans).

    CAEL

Certified to tutor ESL students in preparation for the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) exam, equipping them with the skills needed to study at English speaking colleges and universities across Canada.
