About me

Hello and thanks for visiting my profile 😃

My name is Fopa and I live in Montreal. My native languages are French and English. I also speak German. I studied technology at university level but later discovered my passion for languages and decided to deviate my professional life in this sense. I love everything related to languages and at the moment I'm also learning other languages. So, I am a language tutor and a language student too !

I have 5 years of experience tutoring the french language both online and offline. I tutor students of all levels: from beginner to advanced.

Learning a language is basically divided into 4 parts: listening, writing, reading and speaking. I make use of several books, documents and notes together with audios and several interactive stuffs.

Concerning the lessons, it depends on each and everyone.

For kids, I don't do whole grammar classes because they easily get bored. Together we learn vocabulary through games, flashcards, stories and many more...

If you are an absolute beginner, it's okay we will start from scratch and will work on the pronunciations and gradually we will move to the level where you should be, that is, conversational level to be able to hold basic french conversations with natives without any fear.

If you've had french lessons before, I'll assess your level during the trial lesson, then design a specific plan depending on what your weaknesses and goals are.

I also do work with advanced students willing to improve their vocabulary. This is done during conversational lessons where we debate on a given topic, we express opinions, give experience and just simply discuss while improving our vocabulary and of course I do corrections when I notice an error.

Other conversational classes include real-life scenarios simulations. We place ourselves in a scenario like booking a flight, at the restaurant and we learn about what should be said and done.

Fopa is a great teacher. My daughter (13 years old) looks forward to every lesson with her. She is always well-prepared and can motivate. The topics are adjusted according to the school curriculum. This way, my daughter can wonderfully review the topics from school with Fopa. Fopa also speaks German. However, my daughter now only speaks English with her. Thus, she is essentially learning two languages simultaneously. Great teacher - we highly recommend her.

Conversational French

It’s an unfortunate reality that the French you learn in school is not at all the same language as what you encounter when speaking to people in real life. The foundations are the same of course, but there are all kinds of shortcuts, informalities, and other differences that you need to be familiar with in order to carry on a conversation. I plan conversations with my students related to a particular theme. During the speaking, I listen to the student, structure his/her reasoning and correct his/her sentences

French for beginners

French for absolute beginners starts which the alphabet and phonetic. It's important to know how various combinations of letters alters the pronounciations. This is the very base of language learning. From alphabet and phonetic we go to learning basic verbs. A beginner should be able after a certain time to present himself, present somebody else. Ask questions on simple life topics and also answer them and many more

Intensive French

Intensive French depends on each learner. On his/her needs. It could be intensive in the sense of high spoken French ( français soutenu) or higher in sentences structures in conjugation and many more

French for children

Depending on the child's age. Stories, songs alphabet and interactive videos for the child to learn and grab new words to enhance his/her vocabulary. It depends on children. A child actually beginning with the French language will not have the same scheme of work as a child who has already done some French classes at school
